select video and/or audio.
3. Press the desired input button.
4. Press the desired output button(s).
NOTE If you push a wrong button, press the
Esc button and start over.
5. Press the Enter button.
View ties
1. Press the View button. All of the LEDs for outputs that are not tied light.
NOTE If the audio LED blinks, audio is broken away (switched separately from video).
NOTE If an output LED blinks, that output is muted. To toggle mute on and off, select either Video only or Audio only (not both)
and then press and hold the output button for 2 seconds.
2. Press an input button. The LEDs for all tied outputs light. If no output LEDs light, no outputs are tied.
3. Press an output button. The LEDs for the tied input and all tied outputs light.
4. Press the View button. All input and output LEDs turn off.
Save or recall a preset
1. Use the Preset button to save or recall a preset:
Save a preset — Press and hold the Preset button for 2 seconds.
Recall a preset — Press and release the Preset button.
2. Press the appropriate input or output button to select the desired preset number.
NOTE Inputs 1 - 14 = presets 1 - 14
Outputs 1 - 12 = presets 15 - 26.
3. Press the Enter button. All input LEDs and the Enter LED turn off. The current
configuration is saved at the selected preset location.
Adjust the audio level
1. Press and hold the Audio button for approximately 2 seconds.
2. Press and release the desired input button or output button.
Press an input button to adjust that input’s audio level. The
output LEDs display the gain or attenuation level.
The more lit or blinking LEDs, the greater the level. The
View ( ) and Esc ( ) LEDs show
attenuation (-) and gain (+).
Press an output button to adjust that
output’s volume. The input LEDs display
the volume level. The more lit or blinking
LEDs, the greater the volume.
Refer to the MPX 866 A User's Manual,
#68-1270-01, chapter 3, Operation, to
read the audio displays.
3. Press and release the View ( ) and
Esc ( ) buttons to decrease or increase
the audio level for the selected input or
output by 1 dB per push of the button.
4. Press and release the Audio button to save
changes and exit Audio mode.
NOTE • Video ties cannot be made between the computer
video group and the low resolution video group.
• Audio ties can be made only to the computer
video/audio su/jointfilesconvert/390022/bgroup (outputs 1 through 6).
• Video and audio ties between the low resolution
video input su/jointfilesconvert/390022/bgroup and the low resolution video
output su/jointfilesconvert/390022/bgroup are always made with the audio
broken away. In such an operation, the switcher
automatically ties the audio to an output in the
computer video/audio outputs su/jointfilesconvert/390022/bgroup (outputs 1
through 6) as follows:
Video tied to output 7 = audio tied to output 1.
Video tied to output 8 = audio tied to output 2.
Video tied to output 9 = audio tied to output 3.
Video tied to output 10 = audio tied to output 4.
Video tied to output 11 = audio tied to output 5.
Video tied to output 12 = audio tied to output 6.
The Extron MPX 866 A media presentation matrix switcher combines an 8-input by
6-output VGA matrix switcher, a 6-input by 6-output S-video and composite video
matrix switcher, and a 14-input by 6-output audio matrix switcher in one box.
The matrix switcher distributes any video input to any combination of video outputs
(of the same format) and any audio input to any combination of audio outputs.
The switcher can route multiple input/output configurations simultaneously.
MPX 866 A Media Presentation Matrix Switcher
1. Mounting — If desired, mount the switcher in a standard 19" rack.
2. Computer video group input and output connections —
Inputs 1 through 8 — Connect a computer (RGB) video
source to each input 15-pin HD connector.
Outputs 1 through 6 — Connect an RGB video device to each
output 15-pin HD connector.
3. Low resolution video group input and output connections —
Composite video inputs 9 and 10 — Connect a composite
video source to each input BNC connector.
NOTE Input 9 is a timing reference for the entire low resolution
video group. If one of the inputs is synced to a blackburst
generator, connect that source to input 9.
Inputs 11 through 14 — Connect a composite
or S-video source to each set of input BNC
connectors.
NOTE Inputs 11 through 14 can be set to input
either S-video or composite video. The
default is composite. See Select composite
video or S-video in the Operations section at
right to set the input format for these inputs.
Composite video outputs 7 and 8 — Connect a composite video
device to each of these output BNC connectors.
NOTE If the input tied to output 7 or 8 is S-video, the switcher
encodes it to composite video. If the input is composite video,
the switcher passes it straight through with no processing.
S-video outputs 9 and 10 — Connect an S-video device to
each of these sets of output BNC connectors.
NOTE If the input tied to output 9 or 10 is composite video, the
switcher decodes it to S-video. If the input is composite
video, the switcher passes it straight through.
Pass-through video outputs 11 and 12 — Connect an S-video
or a composite video device to these output BNC connectors.
NOTE The switcher passes the tied input to these
outputs with no signal processing; an
S-video input is tied as S-video, a composite
video input is tied as composite video.
4. Audio input and output connections — Connect
balanced or unbalanced audio sources to each input
5-pole captive screw connector. Connect balanced
or unbalanced audio devices to each output
connector. See Audio Connections, at right, to wire
the connectors.
CAUTION Incorrect audio connector wiring can damage the switcher.
5. Remote port connection — If desired, connect a remote host to either of the
rear panel RS-232 serial ports. See the drawing below to wire the connector.
6. Ethernet connection – If desired, plug an RJ-45
connector into the Ethernet port to connect the switcher to
a LAN/WAN or directly to a computer. For a network
connection, wire the interface cable as a straight cable. For
connection to a computer or control system, wire the
interface cable as a crossover cable.
7. Power — Connect an IEC AC power cord.
Description
Audio Connections
Audio is input to and output from the switcher using captive screw
connectors.
The examples below show two methods of wiring the captive screw audio
connectors for input and output. If you are wiring a captive screw connector
from an existing unbalanced audio cable, the white insulated wire is
typically the left channel (tip) and the red insulated wire is typically the right
channel (sleeve). There is no reliable standard for existing balanced audio
cables.
CAUTION Do not connect the sleeves to either the + or
-
terminal.
Wiring errors or plugging the audio connectors incorrectly can
damage the audio output circuits.
